First Baptist Church was founded in 1822: the first congregation in the new city of Indianapolis! We moved to our current location in the spring of 1960. We have been engaged in active ministry to Indianapolis for almost two hundred years.
First Baptist Church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA and a member of ABC of Greater Indianapolis. We share the good news of God’s unconditional love for this city, our nation and the world. Jesus Christ is our living example and the Holy Spirit is our guide, and so we are committed to the full inclusion of all kinds of women and men in this community of faith.
Worship is central to the life of the church. Therefore, we look forward to worshiping God in a variety of ways. We worship as a community and as individuals, through prayer, ministry, study, sharing faith stories, Biblical reflection, the Lord’s Supper, music, mission, and outreach.
First Baptist Church of Indianapolis operates on these principles…
- Freedom of thought and belief encouraged in all settings
- Inclusive, broad-spirited worship
